I have worked with all 3 SGI boards on an Indigo2, and you'll get the
fastest 2d performance out of the XL. Of course, if LightWave ever comes out
with good support of the OpenGL, the XZ will be faster for 3D, and the
Extreme will be fastest.
Based on current SGI pricing, an XZ costs the same as an XL, and an Extreme
goes for almost 15 grand more. I'd have to say your best bet would be an XZ,
which strikes a good balance between price and performance. It'll be a bit
slower on 2D, a LOT faster on 3D, and you can get 128 megs and a huge hard
drive with the money you save off the Extreme. We just bought 2 Indigo2 XZs
here!
